 Report of the Secretary-General on the activities of the U.N Office for West Africa

The UN Security Council has discussed the overall situation in West Africa, including the Sahara Sahel region, late July. The threats to security and the linkages between the criminal economy and armed violence in the region, including terrorism, were noted.


 

The Centre 4s noted with satisfaction the Security Council renewed interest for this matter and invites most concerned countries in particular Algeria, Mali, Mauritania and Niger to concretely strengthen further their cooperation in all areas to help stabilize a region that offers many economic opportunities

The Centre also invites other interested governments to support local efforts, as they are the most able to manage this grave situation.
